Behind the Name
The name, Stuart, Maue, Mitchell & James, LTD., was inspired by four courageous men and their guiding principles of honesty, integrity, unwavering convictions, and forward-thinking strategies. The following is a brief description of each of these heroic men:
James Ewell Brown “JEB” Stuart was one of the most famous cavalry commanders of America. As a Civil War General, he was a born leader and showed his ability to direct an army after the wounding of Stonewall Jackson. He carried a reputation for being a courageous commander who was known for his tactics and brilliant strategies.
Dr. Maue paid special tribute to his father, who never saw his son, by using the family name when he founded the company. His father was one of the many proud U.S. soldiers killed on Omaha Beach during the Normandy invasion on June 6, 1944. Private Maue served in the Army’s 29th Infantry Division, 116th Regiment’s 1st assault group, and was only 19 years old when he was killed.
Mitchell was adopted from the legendary Army General William “Billy” L. Mitchell. General Mitchell served during World War I, and by the end of the war, he commanded all American air combat units in France. The Army General was a soldier who stood steadfastly by his beliefs and convictions. He strongly advocated that the military adopt air power sooner rather than later. He is now known as the “Father of the U.S. Air Force.”
The name James was selected to honor another hero, Naval Commander Ernest W. James. The Commander served 28 years in the Navy, including three tours in Southeast Asia, and was a highly decorated fighter pilot. After his retirement from the Navy, he attended law school and joined Stuart Maue until his second retirement in 2008.
With our roots of honesty and integrity firmly planted in the past, we constantly pursue new and innovative ideas to meet the needs and expectations of our clients.
